That moment when you’ve finished the audition and you’re doing calculus in your head to try and figure out what the CD meant by, “That was great, we don’t need to do it again.” 🧮➕🧐💭
And the ruminating thoughts that follow and even haunt you?
We get it.
𝘞𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰.
That’s why today’s #mondaymythdebunker is about giving you some peace of mind in regards to getting a redirect… or not.
1️⃣ Every CD and director is different. Some like to give a redirect no matter what, just to see if there were some first-read jitters and/or to see how you take direction. Others don’t work like this and subscribe to the motto, “if it aint broke…”
2️⃣ Often in our industry, we needed to get something done yesterday. We are always on a time crunch and if your take was perfect and we have 5 other actors in the (virtual or in-person) waiting room, we’ll save us both the time.
If you find yourself still doubting “how that went,” remind yourself of this:
𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙟𝙤𝙗 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙡 𝙬𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙟𝙤𝙗.
That responsibility is on us.
Your responsibility is come in as prepared and open to collaboration as possible.
𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 that if we see potential, we will make sure we have the best take.
And 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 that *that* take very well may be the first and only one.
𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 that you’re enough and that your work is enough.
It is now out of your control.
The more you trust yourself and see us as someone who’s part of your team (and more importantly, who wants you to succeed) the less you’ll worry about the amount of redirects and the tone in which we say “that was great.”
Take a breath. Pat yourself on the back. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩*𝘵 𝘨𝘰…
Signed,
