We’ve heard a few actors have this concern before, so we thought we’d start the week off by busting this myth!
Have you ever worried that you’ve had a certain reel up for so long, that when you go to update it, no one will notice?
Let’s run through 2 different scenarios:
1. You had the same reel for the past 7 years. But over those 7 years, we’ve gotten to know you as an actor. We’ve read you, seen your work, know you’re someone we can trust and therefore, don’t need to watch anything new because well, you’ve proven yourself!
2. You’ve had the same reel for the past 7 years and you just updated it. But we haven’t brought you in before and therefore, we aren’t familiar with or your work. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 = 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱/𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. Therefore, when you put up your shiny, new reel—chances are, it will get watched.
Again, the main takeaway is to remind yourself that with the amount of submissions and pitches we receive per episode/project, we couldn’t possibly remember an actor for their materials alone. We remember you because we’ve seen you read, almost hired you or did hire you.
So when you upload that new reel, do so with confidence. It will most likely be seen (and result in more auditions!)
