Double-tap if this direction gives you heart palpitations.
(and yes, today we’re doing #terminologywednesday)
It shouldn’t. Truly.
Why do we sometimes give direction as minimal as “try it again” or “do something different”?
It could be for a couple of reasons:
👉 We liked what you did and don’t have any specific notes but want to see what else you come up with.
👉 We thought you have a lot of potential but saw the nerves get in the way.
What we DON’T want you to do is feel the need to come up with a completely off-the-wall choice just because we want to see it again.
We promise you this:
𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦.
So please, actors, don’t panic. Take that note as a compliment.
When you hear that note—remember to do the following:
Take a deep breath.
Connect with your reader.
LISTEN to what they’re saying.
Don’t worry about the words.
𝔸𝕟𝕕 𝕤𝕖𝕖 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕕𝕚𝕤𝕔𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕣.
THAT is what makes a GREAT second take.
