Ringing in the week with one of the biggest myths we could possibly debunk #readon
Double-tap if you often feel guilty for taking a day off (whether it’s taking a day off from self submitting, reading the trades, a script you’re supposed to be working on etc.)
This is a gentle reminder that, as casting directors, we don’t expect (nor do we want!) you to put acting (or any career for that matter) before family, mental health and your well-being.
This journey is not a race.
WE REPEAT!
𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨. 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮. 𝙄𝙨. 𝙉𝙤𝙩. 𝘼. 𝙍𝙖𝙘𝙚.
Taking a day or 2 or 3 or 4… or 14 off, is OK.
You will not outgrow every role you are right for in 2 days, let alone 2 months.
Your acting abilities will not atrophy during a 2-week vacation.
The emotional toll that acting requires is nothing short of exhausting.
𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴. 𝘕𝘦𝘦𝘥. 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴.
And sometimes that break can be in the form of taking a day off from emails and even thinking about the industry.
This doesn’t translate to laziness or a lack of drive. It translates to the opposite, actually: someone who is pro-active in their mental health and priorities.
If you deplete all of your energy into mailers and networking and emails and favors, what happens when you get the audition of your dreams? 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘺?
𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥.
But it should be not be ignored. Make sure you are balancing your work with some well deserved and much needed mental breaks.
It will only make the work that much stronger.
